  1. Educate Yourself

    • Complete the required Qualifying Education (QE)* prior to applying.
      *Please Note:

      • You must take QE that has been approved by us. (see Education tab)
      • Qualifying education course work to obtain a home inspector registration shall consist of a minimum of 64 hours of instruction and a minimum of 16 hours of field training.
      • All qualifying education must be completed within the three-year period immediately preceding the date of application for initial home inspector registration.
      • City inspectors certified by the International Code Council and contractors who hold a builder’s license and have ten (10) years’ experience as a contractor shall be exempt from the QE requirements for initial registration, but not from the requirements concerning the competency examination.
      • Read the Arkansas law regulating the practice of home inspection in Arkansas. (see Code of Arkansas Rules – Home Inspectors tab)
      • Read the ASHI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. The Board has designated these as the standards and code of ethics to be followed by Arkansas home inspectors. (see ASHI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics tab)

  3. Purchase Professional Liability Insurance

    • You are required to carry at least $100,000 in professional liability insurance.
    • Please verify the insurance company is registered to do business in Arkansas by using the Arkansas Insurance Department’s search tool at https://sbs.naic.org/solar-web/pages/public/stateServices.jsf?dswid=4074&state=AR
    • You’ll select Arkansas as the Jurisdiction and Company as the Search Type, then enter the company name.
    • You are required to obtain and provide to the Board a Certificate of Insurance (COI)**, which must include all the following information:

      1. Your name and address as the insured (not your business, because we don’t register businesses).
      2. Name, business address, and telephone number of the local agent from whom you obtained the policy.
      3. Name of the actual insurance company (the carrier) providing the insurance.
      4. Coverage being provided (a minimum of $100,000.00 professional liability).
      5. The insurance policy number.
      6. The “State Board of Appraisers, Abstracters, and Home Inspectors, 900 W. Capitol Ave, Ste. 400, Little Rock, AR 72201″ named as the certificate holder.
      7. The beginning AND ending dates of the coverage.
      8. Signature of the issuing agent.
      9. Cancellation and notification requirements as specified in Ark. Code §17-52-318(a) & (b), i.e., All policies and certificates shall provide that cancellation or renewal of the policy shall not be effective unless and until at least ten (10) days’ notice of cancellation or non-renewal has been received in writing by the State Board of Appraisers, Abstracters, and Home Inspectors.)

        **Please Note: It is the responsibility of the Home Inspector to provide the Board a current copy of the COI at registration and each year thereafter before the policy expires. Do not rely on your insurance company to provide it for you.

  4. Create an Online Account in RLP and Apply

    • Use this link to create your account and access the registration application form.
    • Upload the following documents with your application.

      1. Qualifying Education Certificate from a Board-approved educator.
      2. Certified true copies of documents showing you have successfully completed both parts of the competency examination.

        1. National Home Inspector Examination
        2. ASHI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics Examination

      3. Certificate of Insurance (as described above)

    • Pay the registration fee with a credit card or e-check.

      1. The registration fee is $250.00 per year. (All registrations must be renewed by December 31 of each year regardless of when you were registered.)

Failure to provide all required information or upload required documents will delay your registration.
