The passage of Act 235 of the 2025 Regular Session of the Arkansas Legislature created changes in the law affecting certain commercial contractors in the State of Arkansas. Those changes pertain to the raising of the bid limit for a “Restricted” commercial license. Prior to August 4, 2025, the bid limit for a Restricted license was $750,000. Beginning August 4, 2025, that bid limit will be $1,500,000. Financial documents required to obtain a Restricted license or an Unrestricted license will remain the same; only the amount of the bid limit has changed. Also, to maintain consistency in our laws, an amendment o an existing Rule of the Contractors Licensing Board has been proposed that will change the dollar value of new commercial construction on a project that can be done under a “Light Building” class license. Under the current Rule, a Light Building classification will only authorize new commercial construction of less than $750,000, labor and materials. Under the proposed amended Rule, that dollar amount is increased to $1,500,000. Any new commercial construction of a cost of $1,500,000 or more, labor and materials, will require the “Building” license classification.
Please review the “Laws & Rules” section of this website, as the statutes and Rules of the Contractors Licensing Board will be updated as statutes become effective and Rules are officially adopted.
