Welcome and Purpose

Welcome!  Arkansas has over 1,000 real estate appraisers.   These men and women contribute to the economy and well-being of the state through their daily work.  A professional real estate appraisal is an essential and important component of any real estate transaction.

The primary purpose of this website is to be a resource to residents of Arkansas seeking information about real estate appraisers.  The Arkansas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board is charged with protecting the public interest through regulation, examination, and licensing of Arkansas real estate appraisers and the registration of Appraisal Management Companies (AMCs).   We approve and monitor pre-licensing and certification education, experience and testing, as well as approve and monitor continuing/qualifying education for real estate appraisers.

It is our intent to maintain a system of licensing and regulating real estate appraisers that is in compliance with federal guidelines and results in license holders that have verified adequate education, experience, and have demonstrated a competency to provide quality service consistent with their specific credentials.

The Arkansas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board also investigates complaints against real estate appraisers and Appraisal Management Companies.

Most appraiser licenses are renewed in June of each year.  State registered and registered apprentice  appraiser credentials are renewed in December.

History

The Arkansas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board was created by the action of the 78th General Assembly during its regular session of 1991 with the passage of Act 541, “The Arkansas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Act.”  The necessity for establishing this Agency was prompted by the enactment of Title XI of the Federal Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989, which requires that all federally related transactions requiring appraisals will be performed by state-licensed and/or certified appraisers. Act 541 was the instrument that set in motion the mechanics for Arkansas to qualify, test, and issue licenses to appraisers in order that the public would be protected and the State might be in compliance with the federal act.
