05/29/2025

LITTLE ROCK, AR – The Arkansas Department of Labor and Licensing proudly announces the establishment of the Arkansas Safety Hall of Fame, a new initiative dedicated to recognizing individuals who have made lasting contributions to workplace safety throughout the state. In its inaugural year, the Hall of Fame honors a true pioneer in workplace safety, Clark Thomas, by naming the first-ever award in his honor—the Clark Thomas Safety Award.

“For over fifty years, Clark Thomas has been the bedrock of workplace safety in Arkansas and beyond,” said Daryl Bassett, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Labor and Licensing. “His relentless dedication has not only shaped policies and best practices but has fostered a culture where safety is a shared responsibility, not just a regulation. Through his leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment, he has left an indelible mark on countless workers’ lives, ensuring they return home safely to their families each day. His legacy is one of service, excellence, and profound impact.”

The Arkansas Safety Hall of Fame and the Clark Thomas Safety Award recognize individuals who have demonstrated outstanding and long-term contributions to the safety of workers across the state. Thomas, the award’s namesake and its first recipient, has spent 53 years advocating for safer workplaces, forging meaningful relationships, and driving change through collaboration and compassion.

“Workplace health and safety aren’t just about rules and numbers—it’s about protecting lives,” said Ralph Hudson, Director of the Division of Labor. “Clark Thomas has lived by this principle every day of his career. He hasn’t just enforced safety standards; he has inspired a culture where looking out for one another is a fundamental value. Through his leadership, passion, and unwavering commitment, he has set a standard that will safeguard workers for generations to come.”

The Clark Thomas Safety Award will be presented to individuals who exemplify leadership, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to workplace safety in Arkansas. Through this award and the Arkansas Safety Hall of Fame, the Department of Labor and Licensing seeks to continue Thomas’s legacy, ensuring that worker safety remains at the forefront of industry and policy discussions.

“As we welcome Clark Thomas into the Arkansas Safety Hall of Fame, we do more than recognize a remarkable individual—we set a standard for generations to follow,” said Secretary Bassett. “This induction is not just an honor; it is a legacy. It celebrates those who dedicate their lives to protecting workers, strengthening communities, and embedding safety into the fabric of our workforce. This is more than an award—it is a tribute to the values that define the very best of Arkansas.”
